In recent days, there have been a number of posts on tumblr about third party apps that host AO3 fic on them. A lot of people are worried and even more people are pissed. 
There is no need to send in emails to AO3 Support or to the Policy and Abuse team. They are fully aware of the situation and are probably drowning in emails right now. 
Here’s what I know and what you can do about it. 
Fluff app / Fanfiction Pocket Archive Library app / Archive Track Reader app:
These apps work as a sort of skin for the AO3 site itself. They don’t download works and redistribute them. They provide an access point to AO3. 
The developers of these apps are making money from the app itself (through tips and subscriptions - both voluntary), which wouldn’t exist without the free content created by AO3 authors. Since people post their work to AO3 because it is free to access and hosted without ads, authors are understandably angered by this. 
Because these apps are basically just a portal to the site, a DMCA notice will not apply in this case. All works currently hosted on AO3 will show up on these apps, because these apps are simply letting you view AO3 through their interface.
Woodsign company apps (including MCU, Harry Potter, Sherlock, Creepypasta, and more):
These apps seem to curate  some fic from the various fandoms and rehost it. They allow users to read offline, so it’s possible they are redistributing it. In this case, a DMCA takedown might be effective. 
This app developer is also making money by hosting fanfic that was written and posted for free on AO3. They have put up a paywall so that you can only access the complete fic if you pay for it or rate the app in the App store. 
If you want to post a negative review, consider saying things like:

 In one particularly gruesome episode that occurred only one month into their
 marriage, Ms. Heard shattered the bones in the tip of Mr. Depp's right middle finger, almost
 completely cutting it off. Ms. Heard threw a glass vodka bottle at Mr. Depp-one of many
 projectiles that she launched at him in this and other instances. The bottle shattered as it came
 into contact with Mr. Depp's hand, and the broken glass and impact severed and shattered Mr.
 Depp's finger. Mr. Depp's finger had to be surgically reattached. Ms. Heard then disseminated
 false accounts of this incident, casting Mr. Depp as the perpetrator of his own injury

and still is – disgusting to read all the things that Johnny suffered… It’s beyond
shocking!   
For the damage
to his career, Johnny is suing Amber in $50 million for her “false allegations”
against him: “an elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity” for her to
“advance her career”, which made her a darling of the #MeToo movement, made
her the first actress named a “Human Rights Champion of the United Nations
Human Rights Office”, also was appointed “ambassador on women’s rights” at the
American Civil Liberties Union, hired by L'Oreal Paris as its “global
spokesperson and some people also believes that all of it opened the doors to her starring in “Aquaman”. While she was enjoying the attention, Johnny was, and still suffers consequences
in his career, such as boycotts that some “haters” still makes. The whole new evidences are a rollercoaster of shocking things:

revealed that he was dropped from his role on “Pirates of the Caribbean” days
after she published her piece in the Washington Post in 2018.  

The
numbers of proofs against Amber, rose so much that from the at least 29
evidences, some months ago, now has at least 87 newly evidences. This numbers are just from surveillance camera videos.  

An employee of the building reviewed building surveillance videos three days after
the alleged incident where Amber claimed that Johnny attacked her, and “testified under oath that she saw Whitney Heard pretend to punch her sister in
the face. Then Ms. Heard, Ms. Pennington (Heard’s best friend), and Whitney
Heard all laughed.” 

I think
the biggest new lie that broke my heart was the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

incident: If you can’t remember, back to 2015, everybody was caught up by surprise
when Johnny had to head back to USA from Australia to make a surgery in his
finger, caused (at that time) for “unknown reasons.” Some time before, Amber


claiming that he 

“he was the perpetrator of his own injury” because he punched a wall and throw a glass during a quarrel. Now was revealed that SHE WAS THE ONE WHO F*CKING THREW A BOTTLE OF VODKA AT
HIM!!! Due to the
impact, the bottle shattered when he made contact with his hand, cutting his
finger almost to the bone, which had to be surgically reattached, and delaying the filming of POTC in a month. At that time, she claimed that  


 

Was revealed that Johnny has proofs that Amber was “spending some questionable time” with Tesla
founder Elon Musk during their short marriage. While Johnny
was working, he also claims Musk was given access to his home to spend the night with Heard on the same night she “presented her battered face to the public.” 
 Amber keep
giving the excuse of “confidentiality restrictions”, due to a divorce agreement
in August 2016 “which prevent her from assisting the defendants with evidence
to support their case”, but, the British judge, Mr. Justice Nicklin, announced:
“I am not satisfied on the current evidence that Ms. Heard’s concerns about the
restrictions that the divorce agreement imposes on her are well-founded.” Mr Justice
Nicklin said that Johnny had stated
clearly in his evidence to the court that he expects Heard give evidence in the
proceedings, and “he will not attempt to prevent that” and added “The fact that
Ms Heard presently thinks that there is some impediment to her giving evidence
for the defendants is nothing to do with Mr Depp. Even if she were right, there
would appear to be a number of ways of resolving the issue that have not yet
been explored adequately or at all.”Now tell
me: How can Amber claims to be a victim if EVERYTHING goes against her and she
didn’t even is defending herself? Her lawyer, Eric M. George, called Johnny’s lawsuit
“frivolous” and accused him of being “hell-bent on achieving self-destruction,”
and said: “This frivolous action is just the latest of Johnny Depp’s repeated efforts

even saw the papers! He only saw parts of the lawsuit release by media! (what a
joke!) Until now she said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, but CONFESSED UNDER OATH to a

It’s not hard to understand what’s going on. It’s not hard to understand who is the abuser and the one trying to destroy a life. It’s not hard to choose the right side.

He just want to prove the truth, and has no
fear of her “evidences”.Another proof we cannot forget of how Johnny is innocent, are his most recent movies. If Johnny had done what Amber says, do you believe that all the actors and directors who had work with Johnny since 2016, would still collaborate with him? Friendship is broken when a lie is told, so do you believe that his friends would still being his friends if it was true? That the Hollywood Vampires and his personal crew would still on his side? Don’t you ever thought how many times Johnny had to prove them that he is innocent, and how hard is he working to show the truth to the world?

And how Hot Topic are the biggest art thieves?  This is recent.  As you can see above, I stumbled upon Hot Topic’s website and they are selling a very popular fan art put on a t-shirt, and did not ask permission from the original artist (rismo).
This shows Hot Topic still continues their art thievery.  Hot Topic are still taking art from artists without their permission.  This is disrespectful and appalling.

Yep. Deleted over 400 drawings and photos from DA over an year ago. I used the site for over 8 years not knowing these terms of service since they don’t actually show them to you when you make an account. Sure you can find them if you do some digging but they don’t shove it to your face. Also it doesn’t matter if your art has a watermark or whatever. Like it says above they have the right to edit and modify your pics so they can just remove your useless watermarks and signatures and then use your art freely and you can’t complain because you have agreed to all of this. There is no reason whatsoever to use Deviantart (maybe if you are a stockartist that gives their shit for free lol). Leave this piece of shit site before they use you like the arrogant asshats they are.


For anyone who still uses DA, please read this.

This is relevant now more then ever because I see alot of people debating going back to DA

 droves, thus leaving behind pretty much only
 the previously-mentioned piss-poor behavior.
 Do you honestly believe focusing on tags is
 going to work? And what do you propose to
 do when people simply stop using tags, or
 come up with alternative ones? Focusing
 on links? We've been sending links to each
 other's inboxes right under your noses
 for years-we just replace a few dots with
 commas, and your system misses it. If WE
 can get around it, I'm pretty sure bots can be
 programmed to do the same. Nixxing links
 to third-party sites? Well, you've just screwed
 over a lot of people looking for support on
 Patreon or trying to start fundraisers for
 their injured pets.
 You were asked to do two things that many
 sites haven't had much issue taking care of:
 Getting rid of spam bots, and keeping the
 site reasonably clear of illegal content. Your
 staff is so collossally inept that every attempt
 you've ever made to rectify these issues has
 caused loss of site function, and massive
 backlash from the user base. Only now that
 it's affecting your wallets do you attempt to
 do anything about it, and the thing you've
 chosen to do is essentially lose the majority
 of your users by coming up with half-ass
 "solutions" that actually do more harm
 to those users than the legitimate criminals
 you're trying to eradicate
 If what you really want is a site for children
 and teens without any adult content,
 then MAKE ONE (not that it'd really solve

 of drawn and written porn are teenage girls,
 and nothing would stop users there from
 continuing to be abusive as hell towards each

 adults that came here under the impression

<p>Federal agents posing as criminals were unable to purchase any firearms from legitimate online marketplaces despite dozens of attempts over a two-year period.</p>

<p>Between July 2015 and November 2017 investigators from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), following up on a congressional request, tried to make the illegal private gun purchases through a number of online forums and market places. They made 72 attempts over that time but couldn’t complete a single sale using legitimate sites.</p>

<p>In 29 attempts the gun sellers refused the sale after being asked to illegally ship the gun to the buyer. Twenty-seven sellers refused after being told the potential buyer was a felon, domestic abuser, or otherwise prohibited from buying a firearm. Eleven sellers attempted to scam the investigators after finding out they were prohibited from buying firearms with two successfully obtaining money from investigators but never sending the promised firearm. Another five attempts to illegally purchase firearms were ended when the investigators’ accounts were shut down due to suspicious activity.</p>

<p>“Tests performed on the Surface Web demonstrated that private sellers GAO contacted on gun forums and other classified ads were unwilling to sell a firearm to an individual who appeared to be prohibited from possessing a firearm,” Seto J. Bagdoyan and Wayne McElrath of the GAO’s Forensic Audits and Investigative Service section said in a report on the investigation released in November.</p>

<p>The investigation specifically targeted online sales by private sellers who do not have a federal firearms license and, in most states, aren’t required to perform background checks on potential buyers. The investigators wanted to see if private sellers on otherwise legitimate online gun forums and marketplaces would break federal law by knowingly selling firearms to somebody who isn’t allowed to buy them.</p>

<p>“The purpose of our Surface Web purchase attempts was to determine whether private sellers would knowingly sell a firearm to an individual prohibited from possessing one, as outlined by the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA),” Bagdoyan and McElrath said in their report. “Our agents used one of five scenarios based on a provision of the GCA when attempting to purchase a firearm. The scenarios involved overtly explaining why our agent was prohibited from possessing a firearm.”</p>

<p>The investigators targeted websites based on whether they hosted nationwide or regional ads, the number of ads they could find, the variety of guns available on the site, how easy it was to access the site, and input from outside organizations like the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.</p>

<p>“To perform Surface Web testing, our agents accessed public gun forums and other classified ads where private nonlicensed sellers listed firearms for sale,” the report said. “These forums and classified ads were identified from our meetings with ATF and third-party entities, and a review of available documentation.”</p>

<p>The GAO had originally planned to conduct 75 attempts at illegal purchases on otherwise legitimate sites but gave up after 72 straight failures.</p>

<p>The investigation, first highlighted by the Daily Beast‘s Lachlan Markay, had better luck on a collection of websites known for criminal trafficking the GAO refers to as the “Dark Web.” Investigators were able to make two gun purchases in seven attempts through the online havens for illegal activity.</p>

<p>“Our agents successfully purchased two firearms from sellers we located on a Dark Web marketplace as a result of seven total attempts,” the report said. “ATF officials stated that the Dark Web is completely anonymous and is designed to facilitate criminal activity online.”</p>

<p>The GAO was able to purchase one semi-automatic AR-15 from a Dark Web seller and one Uzi that was advertised as being capable of automatic fire. The agency said it forwarded information about the likely-illegal sales to appropriate law enforcement agencies for follow up.</p>
