According to the arrest warrant, as Noceda died in his room, Varela texted a group of his co-workers about his situation with pictures, saying “LOL I think she OD’d, still breathing, I’m smashing her to pass the time.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Varela then used the young woman’s finger to unlock her phone and post a message on her Snapchat to suggest she had run away. He then took a nap next to Noceda’s lifeless body, just before clocking in for a double-shift at Dairy Queen, where he disclosed more details about his night with Noceda. “She died having sex with me,” he told his co-workers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, the co-workers quickly informed officials about Varela’s situation, as they linked Noceda’s name to her worried mother’s Facebook page. After gathering the information, officials had enough probable cause for an arrest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They then went to Varela’s home, where they found Noceda’s lifeless body stuffed in a plastic crate in his bedroom. The 19-year-old was then arrested and charged with rape, manslaughter, and homicide by controlled substance with a $500,000 bond for each charge.

Brittany Monk, the girlfriend, testified in court that she and her boyfriend, Jace Crehan, broke into the convicted molester’s trailer and tried to scare him. However, things took a turn for the worse after she sprayed cologne in Robert Noce Jr.’s face. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As she stood before the court, Monk said she told Noce, who was convicted of sexually assaulting Monk for nine years, that he ruined her life. She said her boyfriend then instructed her to get a knife, to which she complied, retrieving the “biggest” knife she could find. Crehan then used the knife to stab Noce repeatedly, just before wrapping a belt around Noce’s neck, using his foot to pull it tighter. After the struggle, the two threw Noce’s body in a 55-gallon container and threw the knife in a lake. Days later, Daily News reports, Crehan admitted to the murder, as he believed the justice system “failed” his girlfriend. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The incident occurred just days after Noce pleaded no contest to sexually molesting Monk while he was dating her mother. However, Crehan said he was “not sorry” for his actions, in fact, he revealed that he felt “a lot better.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Although Crehan’s attorney attempted to argue that his actions were in passion, prosecutors said they were “vigilante” justice, adding that, “We do not live in a country where we as a society are allowed to take the law into our own hands and do justice.” As a result, a jury found Crehan guilty of second-degree murder, he is now facing life in prison. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Monk, on the other hand, pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this year and is facing 40 years in prison.

A portion of the money will be held in a trust for her 4-year-old daughter, who witnessed the brutal murder on July 6, 2016. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Although the agreement still needs to be approved by the court, the settlement will resolve Reynolds’ claims of emotional distress and false arrest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “While no amount of money can change what happened, bring Philando back, or erase the pain that my daughter and I continue to suffer, I do hope that closing this chapter will allow us to get our lives back and move forward,” Reynolds said in a statement. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to reports, the settlement comes just months after Castile’s mother settled for more than $2 million in a wrongful death suit of her son. And if the other side was a group of inmates at a maximum-security prison? Maybe even more so. That would be a mistake. Inmates from the Eastern New York Correctional Facility defeated the prestigious Harvard debate team in mid-September as part of the Bard Prison Initiative, a program run by Bard College to provide college education to qualifying prisoners, according to the Wall Street Journal. If you knew the prison debate club's record, you might have voted for the inmates. They've defeated a nationally ranked team from the University of Vermont and the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. (They lost a rematch against West Point, and it's become something of a rivalry.) The prison club had invited the Harvard College Debating Union to participate. Inmates had to defend a point of view with which they fiercely disagreed, a common practice in debate competition: "Resolved: Public schools in the United States should have the ability to deny enrollment to undocumented students." After the debate, Carlos Polanco told the Wall Street Journal that he would never want to keep a child from attending school but that he was grateful for his chance to attend Bard College in prison. "We have been graced with opportunity," said Polanco, 31, who is in prison for manslaughter. "They make us believe in ourselves." The Harvard club seemed to take the loss gracefully. "Three members of the HCDU had the privilege of competing against members of the Bard Prison Initiative's debate program," the group posted on its Facebook page. "There are few teams we are prouder of having lost a debate to than the phenomenally intelligent and articulate team we faced this weekend, and we are incredibly thankful to Bard and the Eastern https:-www.google.com-amp-s-amp.cnn.com-cnn-2015-10-07-living-harvard-deba

manslaughter: QSearch I have to disagree with part or what you said. Siding with the cop does NOT mean you think Philando's life didn't matter. Just like siding with Philando doesn't mean you hate cops. Those are both pretty simplistic statements. First let me say I do not think that cop should have been a cop to begin with and I don't think he should be a cop after this. A cop with even a slight level of experience would not have reacted in this way and would have likely deescalated rather than pulled his weapon. What I do think, however, is that he was justified in so much that he feared for his life and the jury agreed. Did it have to happen? No! It was sad and should have never happened. But, does that mean either party was wrong? No. It's one of those paradoxical moments where something tragic happened and neither party was likely in the wrong 2 hours ago Like Reply
“He had a completely irrational fear that lead him to shoot an innocent man several times for no reason. But I do believe you should be held accountable for your actions especially when those actions senselessly end a life. That’s why we have a manslaughter charge. It doesn’t require malicious intent, just careless actions resulting in death. We can’t just keep excusing cops losing their head and killing people just because they say “I feared for my life”. And you guys know that I’m no cop hater. I believe some high-profile police shootings were justified. But this was not one of them and I’m tired of seeing this wishy-washy bullshit from people who are afraid to admit that cops can ever be in the wrong.
