Faith No: I think that monergism is completely bogus. Well, then you reject Paul. Paul states we people were "dead" in our sins. Christ then makes us alive. Paul then says that this is not of our doing, but the gift of God. Have you even read Ephesians 2? Yeah, I just think there is a better understanding of that passage that does not involve monergism. First of all, Paul is addressing only Gentiles (see Ephesians 2:11). The Jews were assumed to have NOT been part of this "dead" group. Second, Paul's point is that the work of Christ has now allowed unity of Gentiles and Jews which was not possible before. Third, Paul is using colorful language to enhance his point of how important this revelation actually is. In Ephesians 3:6, Paul explains his entire theme of these chapters: "the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel." Paul's concept is that the death of Jesus has allowed believing Gentiles to become saved. The Gentiles' belief is not what | saves them, but it is exactly why they are |chosen for salvation. The grace is the gift, not the faith. No, the text says that we are "dead". Dead people cannot respond. Have you ever even tried to drag a dead body? I don't think you are taking this to the logical conclusion. Tell me this: in your estimation, Christ makes people alive? (0 0' Yes. That is what the text says. So, the dead cannot respond. Can the alive people respond? In your theology, once people are alive, then can they choose to reject Christ? Well, not exactly.
