Africa, Baller Alert, and Black History Month: Baller Alert's Black History Month Facts Baller Alert's Black History Month Facts- blogged by @peachkyss ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Did you know that DorothyCounts was the first black student to attend Harding High, a previously all-white school in Charlotte, North Carolina? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On September 4, 1957, Dorothy Counts was one of the four black students enrolled at various all-white schools in the district; She was at Harry Harding High School in Charlotte while three students were enrolled at other schools. At just 15 years old, Dorothy's first day of school was very hate-filled. On her first day, she was spat on, had rocks and trash thrown at her and was told to "go back to Africa." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Dorothy Counts stated, "I did not feel I was being protected in any way within the confines of the school because there were adults there and they did nothing. Teachers ignored me as if I was not even in the classroom. If I raised my hand, I wasn't acknowledged." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After four just days, Dorothy left Harding High School. At the age of 74, she takes education very serious and is involved with the community trying to make a difference for our children. She doesn't want our children to experience the hate she had to experience. BABlackHistory
