She is so sweet so shy and so in need of comfort You look in her eyes and you just want to cry the pain is so evident And yet she goes to the volunteers and staff for the closeness she craves for a kind voice a soft touch Yes she is timid but oh how loving she is Linda has a big heart a heart that is loyal and kind and full of love She has so many gifts that she brings to the table if only someone will take the time and be patient with her Everyone has had their heart broken and everyone should remember how that feels Time heals all but it will be an experienced foster or adopter who will help Linda find her smile again Will you give this girl a home? Treatable-Manageable Recommendations No children under 13 Single-pet home Recomend no dog parks Recommendations comments No children under 13 Due to Linda's previously reported resource guarding as well as her observed fearful behavior with the potential for defensive aggression we feel it would be best for her to be placed in a stable adult-only home environment to ensure her success It is advised that the new adopters should be able to exercise appropriate and safe management when handling Linda allowing her to acclimate and decompress at her own pace Force-free reward-based training only is advised when introducing or exposing Linda to new and unfamiliar situations as well as utilizing guidance from a qualified professional trainerbehaviorist Recommend no dog parks- Due to the initial displays of behavior indicating that Linda is fearful around other dogs – tucked body and tail pinned ears whale eyes- while avoiding the other dogs and moving away when they greet her that has now escalated to defensive behaviors See DOG-DOG SUMMARY the Behavior Department recommends that Linda not be taken to dog parks Reward-based force-free training can be utilized to counter-condition and desensitize Linda to help her associate other dogs with positive experiences such as toys or treats The Behavior Department recommends that Linda receive dog socialization sessions under the supervision of a certified trainer or behaviorist Single-pet home Due to the concerning behaviors that Linda has shown during playgroup see DOG-DOG BEHAVIOR SUMMARY we feel that Linda is to be the only resident dog The Behavior Department recommends that Linda be placed in a home with no other dogs until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed once she has adequate time to decompress from the shelter environment The Behavior Department recommends reward-based force-free training only to desensitize and counter-condition Linda using toys or treats to help her associate other dogs with positive experiences Potential challenges House soiling Resource guarding Fearfulpotential for defensive aggression Potential challenges comments House soiling Previous owner reported Linda to be partially house trained Please refer to the handout for House soiling Resource guarding Previous owner reported Linda to growl hard bark and snap over her food No resource guarding behavior reported over toys or treats Please refer to the handout for Resource guarding Fearfulpotential for defensive aggression Although Linda displays social behavior she continues to exhibit fearful body language tense ears back tucked tail when interacting with staff members During her medical exam she was also observed to escalate to hard staring growling and baring her teeth although this behavior has not been observed since Please refer to the handout for Decompression period as well as the handout for Fearful MEDICAL EXAM NOTES 16-Jun-2019 DVM Intake Exam Estimated age 5 years Microchip noted on Intake?
